Spider Veins
Spider veins, also known as telangiectasia, are superficial blood vessels appearing in the face and legs.
What Causes Spider Veins?
Spider veins are caused by the backup of blood, exposure to the sun, oral contraception, and injury. Heredity accounts for 80% of people who have spider veins. There is a perception that crossing your legs is a potential cause, but that is not true.
Is there a topical option to hide their appearance?
Some concealers, such as DERMABLEND, offer a line of products that are formulated to cover blemishes in the skin, which also works for spider veins.
Will tanning help hide spider veins on my legs?
Tanning does not hide them – on the contrary, ultraviolet light breaks down collagen, compressing the walls of the spider veins and causing them to thin and spread.
Why are lasers a good technology for treating spider veins and how do they work?
LASERS offers innovative MicroPulse-1064 technology that produces high power and gentle, safe pulse durations. We use a combination of revolutionary LASERS like the Cutera XEO and the LightPodNeo. Spider veins respond well to light-based energy at a specific wavelength. Lasers work by delivering a small spot of light energy that penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the blood within the vein.
How many treatments are required to remove facial vessels?
Improvement may be seen after a single treatment. The total number of treatments depends on the vascularity and depth of the spider veins. Maximum clearance is typically achieved within 1-3 treatment sessions.
How long do treatments take to perform?
Treatment time varies between 10-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Does laser treatment hurt?
There is little to no discomfort. Our advanced technology does not require numbing agents or additional cooling equipment, however. We do offer topical numbing and often use a combination of contact-cooling (contained in the xeo device), or forced cool air provided by Cryo 6 on rare occasions.
What preparations do I have to make prior to treatment?
We recommend clients come with their faces shaven, free from makeup, and having avoided direct exposure to the sun for at least two weeks. It’s also important to let the practice know if you’ve recently taken any antibiotics or other sensitive supplements or medications.
What preparations do I have to make prior to treatment?
This is a non-invasive treatment to treat spider veins. Redness and swelling with mild bruising can occur, but most always resolve over time. Blisters are also a common occurrence.
What should I do post-procedure or develop complications?
Avoiding sun exposure to the treated area and physical activity should be avoided 24-48 hours after treatment to minimize the risk of any possible complications. If you develop scabbing, it’s imperative to not pick or disrupt the healing process of the scab. We recommend applying a combination of topical healing ointments like Aquaphor and Startacel until any signs of skin irritation subside.
Am I a good candidate for laser treatment?
If you suffer from unsightly or painful facial vessels you may be a good candidate for laser treatment. “Approximately 50 to 55% of women and 40-45% of men in the United States suffer from some type of vein problem per – the U.S Department of Health and Service Office on Women’s Health.
