Skin Rejuvenation
For non-ablative skin rejuvenation, Maine Laser Clinic uses the only aesthetic laser in the industry that provides the full spectrum of treatments in a single system. Now you can restore the face to a youthful, healthy appearance by removing wrinkles, unwanted hair, rosacea, acne, pigmented and vascular lesions – with very high efficacy yet in a gentle, sanitary treatment of any skin type.
What is Photorejuvenation?
Gravity, time, hormones, environmental factors like sun and wind, influence the appearance of our face. Over time collagen found in our skin begins to break down and results in fine lines around the eyes and lips, deeper facial lines and grooves. Luckily there are methods to help combat those elements. Here at Maine Laser Clinic we employ a treatment called Photorejuvenation. Through the use of advancements in laser technology, Photorejuvenation treats various skin conditions, restoring a more youthful appearance to our face and neck. The procedure is safe, easy, and a more gentle method than ablative therapies such as derma-planning or a complete surgical face-lift.
You may be asking yourself, how is this possible? Without overcomplicating the procedure, the laser produces varying light-energy (fluence) that stimulates collagen production, stimulating skin tightening, and cellular stimulation. During the treatment one of the benefits is the laser also targets and treats broken capillaries and telangiectasia (facial spider veins). Finally, the end result is overall healthier skin appearance.
How does Skin Rejuvenation with the laser work?
The laser energy induces fibroblast stimulation and collagen reformation, this has been shown to cause gradual diminishment of wrinkles, skin-laxity and skin pore size. Laser energy is also absorbed in melanin-based lesions like sun damage, age spots, as well as in red spots or vascular lesions. The result is younger, healthier looking skin.
Is this technology approved by the FDA for safety and efficacy?
Absolutely. The laser used is FDA cleared for wrinkle reduction and coagulation of pigmented and vascular lesions on all skin types. While not all devices are FDA approved, the device used at Maine Laser Clinic is FDA approved.

Are there any adverse side effects from Skin Rejuvenation treatment?
No. The procedure is not normally associated with side effects, except for the potential destruction of hair follicles and superficial vascular and pigmented lesions in the treated areas.
Is the process abrasive or painful?
No. The skin rejuvenation treatment is gentle, safe and non-invasive, which means you can resume normal activity immediately after treatment. In fact, you will experience a feeling of relaxation and a mild heating sensation. Anesthesia or skin cooling is not required.
How many sessions will I need?
Results vary from one individual to the next and depend on age and the condition of the skin. Skin texture, pore size, and smoother skin can be seen immediately after the first treatment. Greater improvements will be achieved with more treatments.
How long do treatments take to perform?
Each session is approximately 25-40 minutes. If hands or chest are included in the session, allow for an additional 15-20 minutes.
Will I need maintenance treatments?
Maintenance treatments are recommended and are important in order to maintain visible results. Our experienced staff will be able to provide you with a personalized treatment plan and help determine how many treatments are needed.
Can I apply makeup or lotion after a treatment?
Yes, this is a non-invasive treatment with no downtime.
Am I a good candidate for Skin Rejuvenation?
If you are concerned about the appearance of your skin, have age spots, enlarged pores, fine lines, redness and broken capillaries, you are an ideal candidate for photorejuvenation. Contraindications include those who have healed poorly after other types of laser treatment, those prone to skin discoloration and anyone who is pregnant. Those who are tanned should wait for the tan to fade for best results and individuals using photosensitive medications such as Accutane, tetracycline, or Retin-A should discontinue the medication 2 weeks prior to treatment, and for Accutane, 6 months before treatment.
What should I avoid after the Skin Rejuvenation treatment?
Sun exposure and tanning beds should be avoided post-treatment and the use of exfoliants or harsh products such as retinol creams or glycolic acid creams. Excessive heat such as sauna or hot tubs should also be avoided immediately after treatment as well.
What will my skin look like immediately after a treatment?
This is a non-ablative treatment. The skin may have a pink/red appearance post-treatment but will subside within hours. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation may appear to be darker because the hyperpigmentation or sun/age spots are surfacing. Overall the skin may look brighter and smoother after treatment.
Our laser can be used safely and effectively on absolutely any skin type, even tanned or darker skin tones, as well as pain-sensitive pediatric patients for conditions such as active acne. Our clients experience a uniquely gentle and pleasant experience due to the innovative MicroPulse-1064™ technology and lack of skin contact by the laser handpiece during treatment.
