DERMAPLANING (aka Epi-leveling, blading, leveling)

Dermaplaning is a safe, gentle treatment that removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells as it stimulates and rejuvenates the skin tissue. It leaves the skin immediately silky smooth and vibrant. The treatment can reduce wrinkles, dark spots, acne scaring and unwanted facial hair. Also known as epi-leveling, dermaplaning relies on a surgical scalpel and controlled strokes to deeply exfoliate the surface of the skin. Not to be confused with dermabrasion, this is a safe, quick treatment with little to no adverse effects.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DERMAPLANING?

• Refine the appearance of pores
• Minimize appearance of fine lines and age spots
• Reduction of visible scars
• Stimulates circulation
• Improves elasticity & texture
• Increase the skin’s ability to absorb product – deeper penetration of skin care products

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DERMAPLANING & DERMABRASION?

Dermabrasion is a procedure in which the skin is abraded down to the dermis using a high-speed rotating brush. A local anesthetic is usually needed to numb the skin prior to treatment and ice is applied post treatment. Dermaplaning requires no anesthetics.

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning can be used on most skin types safely and effectively. It can treat several skin imperfections including:

• Fine lines
• Superficial hyperpigmentation
• Mild acne
• Superficial acne scarring
• Rosacea dryness

The lack of chemicals and peeling agents allows nursing and expecting mothers to receive a deep exfoliation and achieve healthier looking skin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY VISIT?

Prior to any skin treatment, our certified aesthetician will complete an in-depth consultation to determine the best treatment for your beauty goals. A skin analysis explains the procedure and possible complications (superficial nicks on the skin) and answers any question you may have regarding the treatment. Once the consultation is complete, your skin is cleaned to allow for a deeper exfoliation with the scalpel. After the skin is dry, the aesthetician uses a sterile #10 blade – held at a 45-degree angle, to abrade the skin – similar to shaving. After the area has been treated, a hydrating moisturizer and sunscreen is applied to the treated area.

HOW OFTEN IS THIS PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

The suggested interval for dermaplaning treatment is once a month for three to four months. At this time, the client can decide when additional treatments are needed to refresh the skin.

IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?

Dermaplaning treatment is a noninvasive treatment with minimum to no adverse side effects. The client should avoid applying anything to the skin other than post procedure cream. The following day you may wash with a gentle cleanser.

WILL HAIR GROW BACK DARKER & THICKER?

NO! Hormones and follicles determine the density and growth. When vellus hair (peach fuzz) is removed during treatment, the hair grows back the without change. Similarly, hair that grows under the arms, beards, pubic area, is physiologically course, and when removed the course hair grows back normally.

CAN I GET A FACIAL IN ADDTION TO DERMAPLANING?

Absolutely. Dermaplaning is a great addition to a facial because it allows for better absorption of topical skin care products. Dermaplaning is always performed prior to the facial.

CAN DERMAPLANING BE DONE BELOW THE EYEBROWS TO REMOVE HAIR?

We do not treat the area below the brows, as the skin is very thin and delicate.

CAN DERMAPLANING BE DONE ON MEN?

Yes! Men benefit greatly from Dermaplaning. The treatment is exactly the same for men and women. It’s a wonderful form of exfoliation, something most men neglect to do on a regular basis. It leaves the skin silky smooth! We welcome all people to schedule a FREE consultation, during that time we’ll explain the process in detail.

Results may vary.  It’s best to consult your physician with any and all questions.  Consultations are always FREE!
