Microneedling

Microneedling technology is one of the newest skin care technologies to hit the US in recent years. Microneedling offers impressive results in lifting and tightening the skin as well as reducing scarring. Dermarollers and Micropens use fast pin prick strikes to trick your body into producing extra collagen which improves skin quality. We love Dermarollers and Micropens because they are sleek and comfortable to hold. They are also customizable with adjustable sizes and speeds.  These applicators also improve product penetration and it’s effectiveness.

Why is Microneedling so effective?

Microneedling is effective because it boosts the effectiveness of creams and lotions by nearly two thousand percent! If there are wrinkles, blackheads, acne, crow’s feet or any other number of blemishes you want to get rid of, then you should consider getting a microneedling treatment as soon as possible!

Does the micropen or dermaroller being used in microneedling make a difference?

There are several different dermaroller and micropen brands as well as styles available, but due to the advancements in skin treatment technologies and vigorous product testing, most applicators now look and function similarly. Dermaroller and micropen technology is standard among manufacturers, and most manufacturers have hundreds of thousands of user feedback comments that helped shaped the applicators into what they are today.

Who invented microneedling?

Dr. Fernandez from South Africa, considered by many as the founder of microneedling discovered during his attempts to perfect the deliverance of Vitamin A and Vitamin C into the skin that uptake of those crucial ingredients were increased when a dermaroller was used.

How did microneedling become so effective?

The dermaroller was instrumental in the development of micropen technology. The dermaroller also uses needles to prick the skin, but did so in much larger areas that offer larger targeted control.

Dermarollers do not have adjustable needles.   Pioneers like Dr. Fernandez and others saw the potential in dermarollers and helped improve their design, spawning the current generation of dermarollers and micropens used today.

How does Microneedling work?

Micropen’s have a repetition rate of 6400+ RPM. The back and forth motion propels the microneedles into the skin. This penetration motion gentle moves the cells aside creating micro-channels within the skin. Micro-channeling signals an immune response to protect the skin. The primary byproduct of this procedure is collagen formation.

What is collagen and why is it important?

Collagen is a protein that’s found throughout the body. The microchannels that are creating by the treatment allow for better deliverance of clinical skincare products such as Environ, SkinCeuticals and more. The medical grade ingredients used in microneedling increases the strength and proliferation of collagen. Many scientific studies have been published outlining the histologic benefits of increased collagen in anti-aging and scar revision.

Am I a good candidate for Microneedling?

Microneedling is suitable to a wide range of people. Most applicators are built to be light and glide easily across the skin. Technology and user training, as well as skincare knowledge are all important during treatment.  Dermarollers and Micropens are wonderful because they are designed to prevent catching or tearing of blemishes and skin tissue.

Micropens are easily adjustable, and dermarollers come in various lengths, ensuring a perfectly customized treatment based on skin type and condition. Microneedles range from 0.2mm to 3mm. Depth of penetration varies. Depending on the type of blemishes that are being treated a certain needle size may be more appropriate and produce better results. A combination of cold therapy and topical numbing cream is used to ensure patient comfort.

What should I expect after a microneedling treatment?

Although microneedling is safe, it’s very common to experience redness, bruising, swelling, and tiny pustules (similar to acne) after a treatment. Not to worry, all of the aforementioned reactions subside in a fews days.

Why should I choose Microneedling over other treatment applications?

Microneedling is a great tool to consider for skin treatments (acne scarring, brown spots, wrinkle reduction), especially considering the low risks involved compared to other treatments. For example, a once popular treatment that’s being overshadowed by microneedling is the use of fractional lasers. Fractional lasers present several side effects most people want to avoid, most notably: hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation. Hyperpigmentation involves patches of skin becoming darker than your natural color and hypopigmentation is the opposite; effected areas lose pigmentation.

Unfortunately, most heat based treatments such as fractional lasers present pigmentation challenges. Thankfully microneedling is savvier and safer than ever. Microneedling is clinically proven to heal sun damaged skin, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scarring, acne, pigmentation issues and more!
